Eddie Dick is currently 26 years old and living on the Japanese island of Tanegashima. While he is officially employed as a high school English teacher he is better known locally as a barbeque enthusiast, barfly and the only surfer who shows up at the beach after work wearing a tie. When he is not hitting the waves, his students or the bottle, he enjoys cooking, video games, welding and reading. One day, when the English teacher gravy train runs out he hopes to return to America and make a living as a cook.

Dear Eddie,
I really enjoy your observations on Japan. Here in Alameda, CA, we have the USS Hornet which was responsible for downing quite a number of Japanese aircraft during WWII. Are there any remnants of the war in the area in which you are living? Do the old guys look at you funny, or what? When I was in Berlin some years ago, I got some weird reactions from some of the residents simply because I was an American (at least I think that’s why). Anyway, I am curious to know any other information about your experiences you would care to share.

Hey Old Boy,
It really looks as if you got a really cool thing going for yourself over there. i’m always glad to see my friends from Hutch on to some interesting shit. Hope all is well spiritually and physically. I’m glad you popped up in my mind today and actually checked out your site. Lee Kowitz told me about it when I dropped in on him in New York.
Best Wishes Friend
