CosmoTown Part I: Best 電気
This is the first installment in a series of posts detailing the opening of Nishinoomote’s newest shopping center, CosmoTown.
November 10th marked the opening of CosmoTown’s first store, Best 電気, which is a chain of japanese electronics stores. The store is quite big for Tanegashima and packed with all kinds of goodies like the iPod Nano, the Nikon D40x and the Motorola RAZR. Unfortunately, little of the merchandise on display could be described as cheap. Take for instance the row of rice cookers pictured below. The high-end models top out at Â¥100,000 (that works out to about $904 at today’s exchange rate). I’m not sure exactly what it does beyond cooking rice, but for that kind of scratch it ought to wash your clothes, dry them and serve you beer.
